How does it work?

Off the back of our successful schools program, we decided to design a program, which would be relevant in the elite sporting environment. Some of Australia’s biggest sporting organisations were quick to jump on board. In 2015, the NRL rolled our program out to every club in the competition. The feedback from each club has been incredible. All players were asked to rate how valuable the program was to them personally, out of 10. The average mark across the competition was 9.2.

Sport is about ups and downs. Managing the downs to ensure the athletes bounce back from adversity is vital to success. We teach athletes the practical strategies that will help them bounce back quickly from tough times. Our programs are tailored to meet the individual needs of the club. A typical program however, includes presentations for the players, the coaches, administration staff and the player’s partners.

What are people saying?

“We have so many people come into the club to talk about different things but this is by far the best presentation we have ever had”
Rory Sloan, Adelaide Football Club

“In 15 years working in player welfare in elite sports, I have never seen such positive feedback for a program”

Brian Phelan, Head of Player Welfare, Melbourne Storm

That’s one of the best presentations I have ever seen. That was extraordinary mate.”

Taylor (Tex) Walker

“I wish I had heard this stuff when I was playing”

Nathan Buckley, Coach, Collingwood Football Club

“Hugh’s presentation of ‘The Resilience Project’ was life changing for myself and my wife. We now take time to reflect on our day about what we are grateful for. It has also helped me concentrate on mindfulness and living in the moment. I would highly recommend this to fellow NRL players and clubs.”

Kurt Gidley, Captain, Newcastle Knights Football Club

“The program was of great benefit to our group and the feedback has been very positive. Giving the players tools to deal with the ups and down, not only in their sporting careers but also in life. Invaluable.”

Rodney Eade, Head Coach, Gold Cost Suns

“The feedback from the players has been exceptional. Not only does the program give tools that we can use individually for well-being but it also gives staff, coaches and players a reference that we can use when things are getting tough”

Simon Fletcher, Player Welfare Manager, Gold Coast Suns

“I’ve been in elite sport for over 17 years now. This is the best presentation I’ve seen at a club.”

Matt Francis, Head of Player Welfare, Parramatta Eels

“Really loved your talk and the work you are doing in mental health. You are making a difference mate. You have the ability to help a lot of people in our sport who have constant battles with themselves everyday.”

Benji Marshall, St George Illawarra Dragons

“Your speech was all time. I kept referring to it the next day, in the heat when we were struggling. I told my partner all about it and we went out and bought a gratitude journal the next day”

Brenton Lawrence, Manly Sea Eagles

“Without bullshitting you mate, retirement would have hit me so much harder had I not started to be grateful for the career that I had, the memories I made and the friends that came into my life”

Clint Newton, Newcastle Knights
