The research behind our programs and resources

GEM is cool and I'm here to tell you about it.

Our model: GEM

The evidence-based principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy form the foundation of all our programs and resources. Schools, Workplaces and Early Years Services are guided to explore each principle through dedicated themes and learn simple, practical tools to support wellbeing.

Gratitude

Gratitude

Gratitude involves recognising and expressing appreciation for the people, places and things in our lives.

Empathy

Empathy

Empathy involves understanding others' feelings and perspectives and is practised through kindness, compassion and curiosity.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness

The practice of mindfulness is about an awareness of life as we're living it.

Emotional Literacy

Emotional Literacy

Emotional literacy involves learning to identify and label our emotions, as well as developing emotional regulation skills.

Benefits of GEM

Regular practise of GEM can lead to increased feelings of happiness, a deeper sense of connection and greater presence.

Gratitude

Leads to increased feelings of happiness and a more positive outlook on life.

Empathy

Fosters deeper connections, increases our likelihood of acting kindly, and helps us experience positive emotions.

Mindfulness

Allows us to be responsive rather than reactive, and to live with greater balance, presence and connection.

Emotional Literacy

When we can accurately name our feelings and emotions, it reduces the impact of uncomfortable emotions and enhances the effect of positive ones.
